Diatom Boxes

This series explores the symmetry of unicellular marine organisms, by cutting through layers of kiln formed glass. The pieces are not literal representations of diatom species, instead they mimic elements of symmetry and form to create new and exotic creatures.

Lenses invite the viewer into the work. Within each box, mirrors are used to reinforce the idea of symmetry, as the carved patterns are repeated and reflected.
